Lelit Mara X Review

One espresso machine, $1,699.95. The Lelit Mara X is a compact heat exchanger machine with an E61-type group, listed at $1,699.95 on Lelit's US store (checked October 15, 2026). One 1.8 L boiler serves both steam and brew water, and a switch picks which gets priority. In brew mode, one reviewer saw steam pressure drop to about 0.5 bar during a shot. It suits E61-style espresso and milk drinks without the cost of a dual boiler.

Specs and claimed vs measured

Lelit publishes a warm-up time and a steam pressure range, but no pump rating, wattage, or brew temperature. The reviewer column comes from 10 video reviews. Three of the channels also sell machines: Alternative Brewing, Artisti, and Kaffeemacher, a Swiss roastery.

What Lelit states vs what reviewers recorded on the Mara X (videos from April 1, 2023 to July 1, 2026)

Pump noise“Silent pump”about 53 dB, distance not given (Kaffeemacher)

The ready light is not the finish line. It went out between 12 and 15 minutes for three reviewers, but Lance Hedrick found the brew temperature on target only at 25–28 minutes, close to Lelit's own figure. Kaffeemacher needed 25 minutes at two of the three settings.

Idle heat is the heat exchanger's known habit, and the Mara X has it. Hedrick's group probe, which reads a little high by Hedrick's own account, showed 207.5°F after the machine had been on a while. Kaffeemacher's first shots after an hour idle came out at 210°F, then fell to 190°F by the 14th shot in a row. The fix is a short cooling flush before the shot.

Mode choice moves the numbers too. In steam priority, Hedrick's readings ran over 208°F. Coffee Kev measured the steam-priority mode 13°F hotter on average than brew priority on the V2.

Real price: MSRP, street price, tax and shipping

Lelit sells the Mara X (PESMX02) on its US store for $1,699.95, the same in three finishes (checked October 15, 2026). We haven't recorded a dealer price. Sales tax comes on top and varies by state.

Lelit's US pages don't state a shipping charge or delivery time, so the checkout total is the one to trust. There's no grinder included; budget for one, and see our espresso grinder picks. The recurring cost Lelit names is its 35-liter softener filter, replaced on the schedule in the upkeep section below.

Where to buy: Lelit direct vs dealers

Lelit's US terms are the same for every machine, and our Lelit Bianca review walks through them in full. In short, only machines bought from Lelit USA can go back under its 30-day policy, and the warranty excludes marketplace and auction sellers (return policy, checked October 15, 2026).

Lelit's US dealer page names eight authorized dealers. A dealer sets its own return window, so ask before you order. Lelit has no Amazon listing for the Mara X that we found.

Financing

The Mara X page on Lelit's US store includes a “Pay over time with Klarna” line in its checkout text, with no APR or term displayed (checked October 15, 2026). Ask for the plan's terms in writing before you sign up.

Warranty and returns

Mara X
30 days · 1-yr
Return Authorization number required (valid 14 calendar days); 'The appliance must have been purchased directly from LELIT USA'.

Lelit's words: “Your LELIT product is covered by a Limited Warranty of 12 months from the date of purchase.” That is one year, half of what Breville gives its Barista Pro. It covers machines bought and used in North America, not commercial use, and you need proof of purchase but no registration (warranty page).

A direct return has to start within the window, “within 30 days from receipt of shipment,” and Lelit issues a Return Authorization number first. Its policy is silent on a restocking fee and on who pays to ship it back (return policy).

Parts and service in the US

Repairs under warranty go by mail: Lelit sends a prepaid label, and the stated time is “up to 10 business days, plus shipping.” The machine weighs 40.6 lb, so keep the box. Out of warranty, Lelit points you to its authorized servicers.

1st-Line Equipment in New Jersey hosts the Mara X parts diagram and repairs Lelit machines, though it warns, “We do not stock every single part listed.”

Boiler and temperature control: how the Mara X manages a heat exchanger

Lelit spells it MaraX. Inside is one 1.8 L boiler with a stainless steel heat exchanger running through it; Lelit calls it a “Double probe HX System with thermosyphon circulation, patent pending.” It has PID control (a digital temperature controller), and a button sets three brew temperatures: Warm, Hot, and Extra Hot.

The key control is the X-mode switch. Brew priority keeps the coffee water steady at the cost of steam pressure; steam priority does the reverse. Hedrick's gauge showed 1.5 bar of steam falling to about 0.5 bar during a shot in brew mode, and Kaffeemacher saw it hold about 1 bar. There's also a steam boost button.

V1 vs V2 vs X3: what changed and when

Lelit doesn't number versions on its pages. The 2020 user manual describes the first version; dealers call the 2022 revision “V2,” and Lelit's 2022 guide adds the temperature button and steam boost. The PESMX02 sold on Lelit's US store matches those 2022 documents.

A third version, the Mara X3 with a “Pagaia” flow paddle, appears in 2026 reviews. Coffee Kev measured its steam-versus-brew gap at 5°F, against 13°F on the V2. Hedrick, though, saw no faster heat-up against Lelit's 24-minute claim (May 3, 2026), and still needed cooling flushes to reach target (Hedrick's flush test).

Pump and pressure

Lelit calls it a “Silent pump” and doesn't name the type; Kaffeemacher identifies a vibration pump at about 53 dB. Hedrick found the over-pressure valve set at 9 bar from the factory. The group lever gives a mechanical preinfusion, and Alternative Brewing saw first drops 10–12 seconds after lifting it.

The Coffee Chronicler turned the valve down to 7 bar and found the pump got louder. That unit also overheated persistently, so its numbers stay out of the table.

Steam wand and milk

Coffee Kev steamed 5.7 fl oz (170 ml) of milk to 140°F in 40 seconds in steam priority and 70 seconds in brew priority. The X3 cut that to 30 and 40 seconds (June 6, 2026).

The mode matters most right after brewing. After a run of shots in brew priority, Hedrick's X3 steam gauge sat at 0.25 bar, too little to steam milk (May 3, 2026). If you make several milk drinks in a row, steam priority is the setting to use.

Size, power and water

The Mara X is narrow: about 8.9 × 20.5 × 14.0 in (W × D × H), and 40.6 lb. The US model runs on 120V; Lelit doesn't publish its wattage. The tank holds 85 fl oz (2.5 L) per the current spec sheet; the 2020 manual says 2.6 L. No Lelit document for this model mentions a plumb-in option.

Our compact espresso machine picks compare it with other small machines.

Mara X or Bianca

The choice between them comes down to flow control and boilers. The Bianca adds a paddle that shapes the shot and a separate brew boiler; the Mara X makes the same drinks from one boiler for $1,300 less.

Daily upkeep: cleaning, descaling and water

The 35-liter softener filter sits in the tank. Lelit's manual says to replace it every 14 complete tank fillings or 4 months of use, whichever comes first, and after 1 month unused (p. 18).

To backflush, run a blind filter with one bag of detergent five times for 10 seconds each, then repeat with plain water (p. 19). The manual sets no frequency for it.

Descaling, as with Lelit's other machines, is a dealer job: “The descaling of the hydraulic circuit of the machine must be done every year,” after a reseller or technician checks it (p. 21). Plan on one visit a year.

Recalls and safety notices

A CPSC search on October 15, 2026 found no recall for any Lelit espresso or coffee machine. Lelit's US page and manuals cite CE standards only, and we found no UL or ETL listing record for the Mara X.

What owners say

Lelit doesn't sell the Mara X on Amazon, so there's no marketplace rating. We read 684 r/espresso posts and comments about it from October 25, 2024 to October 14, 2026. That is one site, below our two-site threshold for a complaint index, so read the counts as a lower bound.

What owners complain about

Heating control leads, with four posts. One owner's heater relay failed closed during a heatwave and drove the boiler to 302°F (r/espresso, July 11, 2026). Others describe a control board replaced after overheating and machines that wouldn't reach temperature.

Electronics follow with three posts, then pump faults, steam wand problems, and service complaints with two each. One brand-new unit leaked on arrival.

One owner wrote “I have a 4 year old Lelit Mara X. I have brought it in for repair 3 times in the past month and I don't think they are doing the right repair again.” (r/espresso, February 3, 2026). In all, 8 of 684 posts (1.2%) described a reliability problem.

Video reviewers saw faults too. Nathan Hanna's machine was completely dead two weeks in, then worked the next day; Lelit offered a free repair. Kaffeemacher's first unit had a defective heater that Lelit confirmed.

What owners praise

Long ownership without drama is the common praise. One owner who upgraded after four years wrote “My first machine was a Mara X, she served me well for 4 years. Though she had some funky habits, I wasn't really unhappy.” (r/espresso, July 11, 2026). A search of r/espresso returned 613 posts about the Mara X in the past year, four of them describing a breakdown.

Questions people ask

Is the Lelit Mara X a good espresso machine?

It is a well-documented one: reviewers measured its warm-up, temperatures, and steam in detail. It brews and steams at once from a compact body for $1,699.95. The catches are idle heat that calls for a cooling flush, a one-year US warranty, and heating faults that four of 684 r/espresso posts we read describe.

Is Lelit or Breville better?

They solve different problems. The Mara X is an E61-type heat exchanger with no grinder that needs about 24 minutes to warm up. Breville's Barista Pro has a built-in grinder, a 3-second ThermoJet heat-up per Breville, and a two-year warranty at $849.95. The Lelit suits milk drinks and tinkering; the Breville suits speed.

What's the difference between the Mara X V2 and V3?

Lelit doesn't use those labels. “V2” is dealer shorthand for the 2022 revision, with the temperature button and steam boost. The 2026 Mara X3, which some call V3, adds a “Pagaia” flow paddle (Lance Hedrick review). Coffee Kev measured a smaller gap between its steam and brew modes, 5°F against 13°F.

How much does the Lelit Mara X cost?

Lelit's US store lists it at $1,699.95 in any of its three finishes (checked October 15, 2026). Add sales tax for your state and a grinder, since none is included. The softener filter is the main running cost, replaced every few months per the manual.
